Lawson Zephyr Art Deco Table Clock
Art Deco brass and copper, cyclometer AC-electric digital table clock,’Zephyr model’ (perhaps influenced or designed by Kem Weber), model P40, made by Lawson Time Inc. Clock model is in the permanent collection of the MFA in Boston. This is an 8″ x 3.5″ x 3 AC-electrified, Art Deco table clock with a dial in the style of the early automobile odometers, actually called a cyclometer (a device for recording the revolutions of a wheel or gearing and hence it measures the cycloidal distance a gearing traverses over time, much as an odometer would do for a wheeled vehicle). A streamlined rectangular brass & copper clock case with rounded front corners, stepped pediment above and horizontal fluting of the right side of the case while resting on circular brass button feet. Inscribed on a metal plate screwed onto the back of the case is, Lawson Electric Clock / 60 cycles, volts 110 w. 4 or less style no. 1990645 / Serial No. A-10373 / Lawson Time, Inc. The rectangular clock dial has three separate cycloidal bands (drum style) with black Arabic digital numerals for hours, minutes and seconds. The bezel is marked for’Lawson’. The movement was designed under patent No. 199065 created by F. Greenwalt of the Pennwood company and first filed in 1933 and again in 1955. (mechanism recently restored by Antique Clock Gallery in Long Beach CA) Condition: Some scuffing and wear to brass plating of clock case. Wear to the Lawson name on the brass bezel around the dial. Numerals are in good condition with mild wear. Clock is functioning and overall for age the clock is in very nice condition.
